Hi, I'm SPARKY!

And I am sssso hungry!

About me.

There may be 50
or more species
of snakes in a
tropical forest.
All of these snakes
are rare and many
elusively live
high in the
treetops or come
out at night and
so are rarely seen!

What is next?

Venom is produced in modified salivary glands, which are situated at the back of the snake's head (behind the eyes). These glands synthesize and store a cocktail of venoms, toxins and enzymes, which travel through ducts to either fangs or grooves in the teeth (back-fanged snakes). The cocktail has a range of effects on other snakes and mammals depending on their immunity. Immunity is the ability of an animal to combat infections and foreign chemicals such as venom. Some mammals have evolved to fight this venom and thus have high immunity - i.e. Mongoose. The venoms work in different ways, they can paralyse prey (cobra venom affects the nervous system) or digest tissues and organs (rattlesnakes) which helps them in their food intake.

Never say never
